Maria, 38 Lack of direction and a desire for challenge led Maria to seek the help from NHV.
After graduating from university with an excellent degree in Media and Drama, she set off on the employment road as a graduate apprentice in the entertainment industry. Though she enjoyed the elements of her work, she felt that her job did not challenge her, nor did it offer her what she had expected. “I’d describe my work as monotonous and frustrating,” she explained to her consultant. “There are no clear career opportunities for promotion or remuneration and I feel suffocated in the role.” Maria knew this career was not for her, but had no idea what she could go into instead. Working with her consultant, Maria discovered that she had unrecognised strengths and talents. Having examined her personality and her goals, the consultant suggested a possible role in marketing, where her commercial ambition and her creative skills could be combined. Four months on, and Maria has undergone a complete career change; she is indeed working in marketing, for a multi-national corporation, and has never been happier. “With guidance from NHV, I now have some direction with my career. I’m challenged and fulfilled, and I’m finally enjoying going to work every day.”
Andrew, 33 Andrew is typical of many young adults that come to NHV in their early 30’s. After working in the head office of a major car manufacturer for the last seven years, Andrew was determined to face a new and fresh challenge, but didn’t know how best to initiate the transition. 16 months later, Andrew runs his own gym/martial arts centre. “I wanted to run my own business in an area that interested me, and my program with NHV gave me the ideas and confidence to be able to do it.” “Going to NHV was a major turning point for me. The exercises and the review session enlightened me about myself, my motivations, my goals and the way I am.”
Bill – 25 Bill, a philosophy graduate with an apparent high level of intellect and introverted nature came to NHV after a “terrible start to his career.” Bill had worked for a recruitment company and also a multi-national software organisation over the last 18 months and was very dissatisfied with his work life. “I neither enjoy the environment nor the work.” He stated. Bill began his NHV program immediately discovering that his strengths and competencies were not an appropriate match with the roles and organisations he was, and had previously been in. With a greater state of self awareness, and with the assistance of his consultant, he began exploring preferred subject areas for future roles, and the sectors in which these might occur. Next, they agreed the culture, values and style of the target organisation, and Bill’s needs for intellectual stimulus, a non-aggressive organisation providing a degree of autonomy and a caring style came to the fore. Bill is now much happier, and is working as an organisational development officer within an HR consultancy organisation.
